What is Tabata?

Tabata is a specific timing period of 20 seconds of work followed by 10 seconds of rest. This is traditionally performed for 8 rounds, or 4 mins total. 

How is Tabata used in a training program?

Tabata is a common timing format for group classes. In a strength training program, we reserve tabata for core or burnouts at the end of a workout. 

What is an example of Tabata?

Straight sets

  • 20 seconds Plank Hold

  • 10 seconds Rest

  • Repeat 8x for 4 mins total

Supersets

  • 20 seconds Plank Hold

  • 10 seconds Rest

  • 20 seconds Hollow body hold

  • 10 seconds Rest

  • Repeat 4x for 4 mins total
